Thickness decides most of what a buyer cares about: how many pieces fit in a carton, what the freight weighs, and whether one packer closes a gap or three of them do. Our flat range runs from 1 mm to 20 mm in three plate sizes, moulded in PP with a ribbed face.
The family starts with a 100 x 28 mm strip for thin work and moves up to two plates, 100 x 72 mm and 150 x 100 mm. The strip is the one that goes behind a bead or under a small sash, where 28 mm of width is all the gap allows. The plates are for frame corners and sills, where the packer has to carry load across a wider face and stay put while the frame is adjusted.
Look closely at a plate and the face carries a fine rib pattern, with the size moulded into the centre. That texture is not cosmetic. A smooth PP face against a smooth frame can slide under vibration while the adhesive or foam cures, and the ribs give the two surfaces something to key into. On a vertical shim the effect is small. On a horizontal one under a sill it is the difference between a packer that stays where it was set and one that walks out before the frame is fixed.
| Thickness | Pieces per box | Weight per piece | Boxes per carton |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mm | 140 | 8.2 g | 8 |
| 2 mm | 95 | 18.8 g | 8 |
| 3 mm | 72 | 30.9 g | 8 |
| 5 mm | 40 | 51 g | 8 |
| 10 mm | 20 | 89.6 g | 8 |
| 20 mm | 10 | 213.9 g | 8 |
Those figures are for the 100 x 72 mm plate, where eight boxes make a carton of 33.5 x 27.5 x 24 cm. The 150 x 100 mm plate follows the same pattern with 144 pieces at 1 mm and 10 at 20 mm, packed four boxes to a carton. A carton of 1 mm packers holds fourteen times the piece count of a carton of 20 mm ones. The 20 mm piece weighs about twenty-six times as much, so a mixed order almost never fills a container evenly.
This is the question we get most often, and our answer is blunt. Stack if the gap is under 10 mm and the load is light, because two 5 mm packers are easier to trim to the opening than one 10 mm packer that is slightly wrong. Do not stack in a load path. Every extra interface is a place where the assembly can settle, and a settled packer means a frame that moves after handover. Above 20 mm we would rather quote a different product than sell you four plates to make one block.
Which thickness should a stockist carry first?
The 3 mm in the 100 x 72 mm plate, plus 1 mm and 2 mm in the 100 x 28 mm strip. Most frame work needs a thin correction, and the plate handles the corners where a frame sits down on the substrate. Anything above 10 mm tends to be a project order rather than shelf stock.
Can flat packers be used under a structural steel column?
No. A PP packer is a spacer for frames, sills and beads, and it is not a substitute for an engineered steel shim. Where a structural connection needs packing, the shim belongs on the drawing as a specified item with its own load path, not as something a fitter adds on site.
Yifang Plastic moulds flat window packers in PP at its facility in Langfang, Hebei. The 100 x 28 mm flat packer and the mixed 1 to 6 mm packing shim set are listed with their packing options. The distributor view of the same range sits in a note for ANZ wholesalers and installation companies. For where a packer may sit in a US assembly, see ASTM E2112.
